TOBY HAYNES

  • Toby Haynes is a graduate of the National Film and Television School and has amassed an enviable credit list over his career, gathering the biggest names from British and, more recently, US drama on his reel.

    Some of the outstanding shows Toby has directed include: Five Days starring David Morrissey and Suranne Jones, as well as Being Human starring Russell Tovey. He directed the season finale of Doctor Who starring Matt Smith and Karen Gillan, which won the 2011 Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation.

    He concluded the second series of Sherlock, in the highly lauded The Reichenbach Fall and opened series 3 of Wallander starring Sir Kenneth Branagh. This episode attained the highest viewing figures for the entire series and was also the recipient of six BAFTAs.

    Toby then enjoyed huge success directing the BBC1 drama Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell for Feel Films. Nominated for four BAFTA Crafts in 2016, and winning two, the critically acclaimed drama also received a number of RTS awards, including Best Director.

    Continuing his stratospheric rise in Drama Toby then went on to direct Black Mirror: USS Callister. The flagship episode for the highly anticipated fourth series went on to win an incredible four Emmy’s including Outstanding TV Movie.

    He completed the film Brexit: An Uncivil War for Channel 4 and HBO starring Benedict Cumberbatch, and went onto direct Utopia, shooting in Chicago and penned by Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl / Sharp Objects). He has just completed shooting Star Wars series Andor and is currently shooting a new Black Mirror.

    In Commercials Toby brings to the table in equal measures his skill and passion for directing both comedy and drama, and he’s already shot some incredibly funny and compelling spots in the US for The Georgia Lottery and in the UK for Durex.

    He is a big name to watch as his acclaim and career in TV goes from strength to strength.
