Oh Yeah Wow

Evolving from his origins in Clay animation, Darcy Prendergast aka Oh Yeah Wow; the son of a zookeeper, is an internationally renowned live action director, animator and illustrator; who for years lived in a secret hidden cupboard in his studio, while he garnered a reputation and awards to boot, for his innovative techniques both in and out of camera.

After working as lead sculptor on the Sundance opening clay animation, Mary & Max, he went on to work work with bands such as Gotye, Neil Young, Aloe Blacc, J Cole, Green Day and more, and has screened at SXSW, Annecy International Festival, Sydney Film Festival and the Guggenheim Museum. 2018 saw even more accolade with the AACTA (Australia’s Academy Awards) nominated Monster’s Playground.

Founder of 'Oh Yeah Wow’, a collective of leading talent in animation and VFX they have been Vimeo staff picked over 14 times.

What resonates across all their work is visceral level of love and craftsmanship that is compelling to watch and which has also garnered the interest of brands for commercial work including Ikea, Uber,Gillette, Vodafone, Milka, Tele 2, Optus and Coca-Cola, often with repeat business from agencies and brands alike.

Oh Yeah Wow in 2019 won a Helpmann Award for Production Design - Australia's biggest theatre award - for a projection-mapped theatre show, Blackie Blackie Brown which they did for Cate Blanchett's Sydney Theatre Company, with live triggered animation layers. Rather than the actors hitting timings, they would trigger animated cues that were projection mapped to the actors in real time. They also built it on a complicated sloped set, with removable panels and trapdoors. Sadly it wasn’t filmed, so we can’t show you, BUT safe to say Oh Yeah Wow are technical directing wizards who never just dial-in a performance!

Ever prolific and multi-talented Darcy is also the creator of the Nickelodeon animated mini-series, Supa Phresh.

Whilst he no longer lives in a cupboard, he loves dinosaurs, fireworks and imaginative concepts, and once got an email from Prince. Yes, as in the legendary musician Prince!
